Taking into account need to preserve clean environment and to reduce the use of plastic, Maharashtra Government has banned plastic and thermocol use from June 23, 2018. People are also giving positive response to it. To add in this movement of plastic ban, this year many Ganapati Mandals are opting for eco-friendly options for decorations.
Many Mandals are choosing material for decoration as cardboards, wood materials, paper and Plaster of Paris (POP). Shopkeepers are trying to keep reasonable prices of these products as being the first year. This option of eco-friendly material for decoration is no doubt costlier than the plastic but it is more important to have it to save our environment. According to sources, there is 70% reduction in thermocol and plastic decorations this year. Thermocol decorations are still there in some household decorations but let’s all hope that it will too be reduced till next year. Many people are opting for self-made decorations also with the raw material available in the market.
In all this eco-friendly decorations by Ganapati Mandals and also by individuals is going to be a good start towards clean and green environment and it will also contribute in reducing the problems caused by the large use of plastic and thermocol. So let’s all gear up for eco-friendly Ganapati Celebrations this year.
