About Temghar Dam
Temghar Dam is an earth fill and gravity Dam built on the river Mutha. Temghar Dam is near Mulshi village in the district of Pune. It’s around 40kms from Pune. The length of the Dam is 1,075 meters. This Dam is not as large as Panshet or Khadakwasla but is worth visiting especially during Monsoon. The main purpose of the Dam is for irrigation which is of great help to the nearby areas.
How to reach?
By private vehicle: If travelling by a bike or a car, from Chandani Chauk move towards Pirangut then take the road to Lavasa. The destination is approximately around 15kms from Pirangut. Time may vary depending on the traffic.
By public transport: Buses are available from Pune station or Swargate that take you towards Lavasa city that stop at Temghar Dam. Local Taxis and cabs are also available for the same.
Things to do:
Temghar is on the way to Lavasa city. It is near Pune and Temghar and is famous for pit stop breaks while travelling to Lavasa. The dam has leakages at a couple of places along its wall and thus one can see water gushing from there. This is a good place for snack break after the long drive from Pune city. ‘Bhutta’ which is a famous snack, is available here. There are many small villages on the way to Temghar which adds to the beauty.
During monsoon the weather becomes romantic and it attracts a lot couples here.
Lavasa city being close to it, this place has tourists throughout the year. It also attracts a lot of photographers as it is famous for its construction at Lavasa city.
The dam has leakages at a couple of places along its wall and thus one can see water gushing from there when it is full.
Best time to visit:
Lavasa city attracts tourist throughout the year, but during Monsoon the dam is full and the weather is superb. Temghar dam is worth visiting during the rainy season and Punekars love it.
