As soon as I hear the word Purushottam Karandak, I go back to my college days as this Karandak (trophy) was the most happening and significant thing in my college days and I think it still is the same.
It is the state level inter-collegiate one act play competition which has being taken place in the city since around 55 years. This trophy is given for doing outstanding performances in the theatricals and it is given in the name of Late Mr. Purushottam Ramachandra. It started by Rambhau Datye.
Every year after college admissions are over, students start their preparation for Purushottam Karandak with full zeal and enthusiasm. Students do their parts with full devotion, energy, creativity be it actors, directors or writers. This competition takes place in “Bharat Natya Mandir” situated in Sadashiv Peth.
Many artists from film industry are outcome of this trophy as they got to kick-start their careers from this stage only. Students get to learn basic things of acting and other technical things like lights, sound management from this platform.
Colleges from city like BMCC, MMCC, Fergusson, SP and many other are now in full gear for the preparation of the trophy.
