About Pu La Deshpande Garden
Pu La Deshpande Garden is located on Sinhagad road of Pune. This garden is known by many names. It is also called as Okayama Friendship Garden or Japanese garden. The garden contains natural flow of water from canal which it is been spread all over the garden. These water canals have mini bridges over it that gives it a wonderful look to the garden. This garden is built on 10 acres of land and is very well maintained by the staff. Walking on the grass is not allowed, thus to intact its beauty. The garden is based on the famous ‘Korakuen Garden’ in the city of Okayama in Japan. The lush green lawns all around and the flower plants with various types of flowers blooming and blossoming briskly on the branches impart the garden’s beauty.
The garden is the best place to visit throughout the year. Citizens flock here all the year but it is mostly crowded during summers as most of the children have vacations. Despite that, summer breeze is mesmerizing here. The artificial lake in the garden is also a mjor attraction.
The security guards have been appointed here to avoid any unpleasant incident. Eatables and water bottles are not allowed inside which helps keeping the place clean. Photography is not allowed here and this might be a little disappointment to the visitors. But nevertheless, this place can be enjoyed without any technical intervene.
History of Pu La Deshpande Garden
The history of the garden can be traced back to 300 years. Pu La Deshpande is one of the most prolific writers in the history of Marathi literature and a multi faceted personality. He is also famous as ‘Maharashtrache Ladke Vyaktimatva’ which means ‘a personality loved by entire Maharashtra’. The Pune Municipal Corporation had taken a decision to name a garden in Pune after this great writer. And after his death in 2000, the Japanese Garden in Pune was named after him and so now it is called the Pu La Deshpande Udyan.
