One of the world’s top tennis players, Maria Sharapova now will not complete at the Wimbledon later this month or in any tournament anytime soon, as she has been banned for two years for failing a drug test in month of January during Australian open and leaving her eminent tennis career hanging in balance. Russian tennis player suspended from all tennis campaign until 26th January 2018. The 29 years Old Russian and one of the richest athletes in the history of women’s sport who had been provisionally got selected to play at the Rio Olympics in August month, expect to appeal against this decision, but that ban remains unchanged.
Maria Sharapova Baned for 2 Years For Doping
This ban was announced on Wednesday,8th of June,2016 by the International Tennis Federation is considered to have initiated on 26th January, the day when she failed a test for recently drug meldonium after defeating to Serena Williams in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open tournament. Since, Sharapova has not played any tournament, but still she has maintained her high profile at the public appearances to promote her confectionary business. Sharapova has stated that she had been taking meldonium almost over a ten years period as per the advised by her family doctor as she was suffering several health issues and that she was not expecting a ban.
The five time grand slam champions said that, she plans to appeal this decision. And she had already been admitted that she continued taken substance in past just for enhancing performance. But in reaching down to its verdict, Federation recognised that she had not intentionally broke the rules of anti – doping, also they said that Russians is solely responsible for her own misfortune as she not even take any step to check whether the continued use of that medicine was admissible. So, with such a long absence her prospects of reaching the standards which she won five grand slam titles will be seriously diminished.
