A small satellite designed and built by Brown University students was launched into space last week. Anand Lalwani, a 22 year old Indian youth was a part of this team. Anand led a team of 17 members who were responsible for designing and building the solar power and battery systems for the satellite. This project was a part of NASA’s CubeSat launch initiative. The satellite launched was named as ‘EQUISAT’. This satellite was to be built in a cost effective way which was a big challenge for the students but keeping all the constraints up to the mark they built a satellite in less than $5,000 dollars. Anand Lalwani is a resident of Pune City, Maharashtra. Anand has done his schooling from Symbiosis International School, Pune and his higher education from Mahindra United World College. He is presently working as a Research Assistant at Brown University.
