Freaky Ali: Movie Review and Ratings – This week’s another release ‘Freaky Ali’ starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui is in the comic terms and is sure to touch your funny bones which is based on Happy Gilmore by Tim Herlihy.
As mentioned, the story is based on Happy Gilmore by Tim Herlihy where the protagonist is a Ice hockey player. The story is based on the similar lines where Ali (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is an extortion debt collector for the local goon along with Maqsood (Arbaaz Khan). One day he goes to the golf course to collect extortion and has to wait for many hours for a man to give him the money. While on the course, the man tries to finish the hole but cannot. Ali claims the hole is easy, so the man asks him to show it. Ali puts the ball in just one swing as he is a gifted natural swing in Golf. This not only surprises the man, but also the acquaintance who is with him. While his talent is discovered, the golfing instructor convinces him to become a golf pro. He makes enemies in the process with the current Golf champ Jas Arora and the infatuation with the manager (Amy Jackson). What lands up is when a simple extortion debt collector becomes a golfing sensation, and along the way of him becoming a champion.

A more polished direction would have made the comedy work better. The romance between Ali and Amy Jackson’s character is very forced. There are a few inconsistencies in the film which doesn’t connect the audience. What works for the film are the dialogues and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The humour in the dialogues play to the gallery, some even going below the belt. The jokes on old men and speech defects may not appeal to everyone but Nawazuddin Siddiqui once again proves that there is no genre that is difficult for him.
Also this is Sohail Khan’s first film where he directed without Salman Khan or himself in any role. We have seen serious roles by Nawazuddin, but here he is seen romancing with the mainstream heroine.
