Pune : The Beer sales in Maharashtra has steeply gone down in last two years. The summer season of 2018 has seen 15% less sale as compared to last year. Summer is considered as the season of beer and the sale in this season is always expected to be on a higher side. But things aren’t working the way liquor industries want them to work. The hike in excise duties and the strict laws of Maharashtra has made it difficult for industries to enter the market. No new liquor company wants to enter Maharashtra due to the strict laws.
A retailer says “ Beer sales have dropped at our store because of the rising prices of beer. A beer bottle of 650ml costs Rs.160 to Rs.200 now, which was earlier sold for Rs.120. In a period of three years things have changed and made it difficult for us”.
