Maharashtra government has decided to annex Animal Husbandry department with Forest department in order to prevent the dispersion of Nipah Virus. The department will keep a close watch on areas that have high population of bats.
The virus spreads through contact with bat droppings or consuming fruits infected with it. Pork is another possible medium through which the virus can spread. It can also commute through human contact. “We are keeping a close watch in the districts of western Maharashtra, which have a large concentration of bats as well as orchards” said the commissioner of Animal Husbandry Department.
