9th August: Maharashtra Bandh


On 9th August i.e. on Thursday all over Maharashtra 100%“bandh” was observed for Maratha Reservation Stir. It was observed from Sunrise to Sunset.

Schools and colleges had already declared holiday for this day. Most of the industries also remained closed.  Many IT firms were shut; they had given work from option to their employees for their safety. Shopkeepers too supported this “bandh” by keeping their shutters down. In many areas two wheeler rallies were carried.

Pune-Mumbai Expressway also remained closed for six hours for first time. Public Transport services were also involved in it, so commuters who wanted to travel from airports, bus stands and railway stations were stranded. It was hard for them to get any transport facility even after paying huge amount. In many areas violence was observed. There was loss of government property.
