As fuel prices have gone up like anything, there will be minimum 20% increase in the school bus fees. This will be done to cope up with the increased prices of fuel, otherwise bus operators will have to bear losses as there is approximate increase in cost of Rs 400 to 500 per day for each vehicle.
As per the officials, there will be meeting to decide on the issue of hike in the bus fees. In the beginning of the academic year some bus operators have made an agreement with parents that they will not increase the fares till next year, but now with high mounted fuel prices they don’t have an option but to run the buses bearing the losses. The bus operators also have to manage other operating costs such as staff salary, safety equipment’s costs, maintenance of vehicles, insurance of vehicles and so on.
Let’s all hope that there will be decrease in the fuel prices which will lead to no change in bus fess and it will be a sigh of relief to parents of students who commute to their schools by school buses.
