About Ujjani Dam

Ujjani Dam is also known as Bhima Dam. This dam is built on the river Krishna which is a tributary of the river Bhima. It is an earth fill dam located near Ujjani village of the Indapur Taluka of Solapur district. Bhima River originates from the Western ghats and forms the Bhima valley with its tributaries and has many dams constructed on it, among which Ujjani is one. The length of the dam is 2,534 meters. The main source of water collection of Ujjani is from rainfall. Ujjani has multi-purpose use as it provides hydroelectricity, drinking and industrial water supply as well as fisheries. The density of phytoplankton is high in the Ujjani Dam and is helpful for propagation of various fish species.

How to reach?

By private vehicle: Ujjani Dam is 150kms from Pune and takes about 3 hours to reach from a bike or a Car. It’s on the Pune-Solapur highway towards Bhigwan.
By public transport: State transport buses are available from Swargate and Pune station.

Things to do:


Despite being a reservoir, Ujjani is attracted by a lot of tourists throughout the year. Bhigwan is a small village here which is famous for Bird watching and wildlife photography. It’s also considered as mini Bharatpur. A lot of flamingos migrate here during winter and is a beautiful site to be present. It is the ultimate destination for the photographers and nature lovers. It’s the favorite place for migratory birds. More than 250 species of birds are found here.

Best time to visit:

This place is open throughout the year, but monsoon is the best time to be visited. For bird watching, winter is the perfect time as a lot of birds migrate here.
