About Bhatghar Dam
Bhatghar Dam is a gravity dam built on the river Yelwanti which is near Bhor village of Pune district. It is 40kms from Pune. Bhatghar dam is also known as Lloyd Dam. The length of the dam is 1,625 meters. The volume content of the dam is 650km3. This dam was built in 1927 and it was mainly for generating electricity and for irrigation. The electricity project of this dam is run by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.
How to reach?
By private vehicle: Bhatghar Dam is located just off the NH 4 between Pune and Satara. It is about 50 Km from Pune and can be reached by private vehicle.
By public transport: Regular State Transport buses are available from Swargate or Pune station.
Things to do:
Bhatghar Dam’s area is been developed into beautiful and attractive gardens. Water sports and activities are also famous here. Boating is the most preferred activity here.
Bhatghar dam can be visited during anytime of the year, but if you want to enjoy the lush greenery, monsoon is the perfect time. One can spend hours as the serenity is very calm and peaceful.
